Most people have heard of the Bill of Rights and that is because it is probably
the single most important source of the bundle of rights we generally think of
as our civil rights. The Bill of Rights are the first ten amendments to the
constitution. The most important amendment, however, may well be the
fourteenth amendment, which was enacted right after the civil war. It not only
guarantees due process and equal rights to all citizens, but it also extended
the reach of the Bill of Rights. Therefore, to really be accurate, we should
include the fourteenth amendment when we talk about the Bill of Rights.
